Chapter 6

My Gertie

Waking in her bed was almost as wonderful as making love to her last night had been. He was on cloud nine and surely things would finally go right? He knew if Jorge was captured, his father would leave and he was certain he would stay.

Right now he had to get going and so did Gertie. “Ready for a shower?” He asked.

“It won’t be together. Now is the time to hurry since we slept late.” Gertie said as she ran naked to the bathroom.

Once she came out all clean and sweet smelling, he went in and cleaned up. When he left the bathroom, he wasn’t entirely surprised that she’d already left the room. She might have let him in her bed, but he was by no means in her life yet. He got to the dining area and most people were nearly finished with their food. Rushing, he filled his plate and hurried with his food.

“Everyone ready?” Gertie asked shooting him a questioning look.

Nodding, he ran his tray to the bin and stepped up next to her. His father and his cronies were forming a tight group. The people from their base were grouped around Gertie as he was. This divide between the two groups was clear even to a stranger.

His father’s people looked like a rag tag group with many looking scared and not capable of putting up a fight. It had become clear to his court that this mission was dangerous and they no longer wished to participate up close. Only those that were warriors or trackers looked capable of defending themselves adequately.

Gertie’s group were all prepared to fight and looked able bodied and ready to go. They were risking their lives, knew it, and were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for their world. Hopefully they wouldn’t lose anyone. He liked those in this group and hated the thought of any meeting their end.

Now they flashed to a field. The king sent an irritated look at Gertie because she’d given them no warning. Some of his people had fallen over from surprise when she’d flashed them. Since this was a field, he assumed Jorge was traveling through here but he was wrong. After a long and tiring search, they managed to find the entrance to an underground prison.

This was Jorge’s new hideaway. He’d made it with magic and the walls looked newly dug. It was an awesome accomplishment which caused him more worry. If he could do this, what else could he do? This place was nearly full of unhappy people that were underfed, unwashed, and the rooms unfurnished. A trough ran along the wall with trickles of water sliding through.

He observed people were disappearing but luckily his father’s eyes were just looking for Jorge. The king rushed ahead and no one stopped him. It was hard to admit it, but if he died few would feel sad. Some of the cells were empty now and a loud noise came from up ahead. It sounded as if two large armies had hit head on.
